Social Media and Sheffield

In the recent campaign to keep Sheffield’s biblical studies department open, social media has played an instrumental role. Two of the primary avenues through which information has been disseminated are biblioblogs and Facebook. Jim West in particular has been keeping up with the latest and Mark Goodacre had previously put together two brief digests of relevant links which I found helpful. Many others have posted relevant news, shared links on Facebook, and (I suspect) tweeted as well. This is a great example of social media at work, social media at its best.

Reflecting on the situation recalls a series I did very early in the life of this blog regarding social media and biblical scholarship. The young blog did not enjoy as much readership then as now, so I plan to compact the series a bit and repost it in the coming days (perhaps weeks).
